Five Pagoda Temple

Five Pagoda Temple ("Wu Ta Si" in Chinese) was established in the early Ming Dynasty during the years when Yong Le Emperor had chosen Beijing as the new capital for his empire. Originally it was known as "Authentic Bodhi Temple" (Zhen Jue Si) and was a direct royal endowment of the Emperor himself to a Buddhist Grandmaster from India. The temple however was brutally burnt down by the Western Alliance Troop on their way to loot and burn Yuan Ming Garden in the late Qing Dynasty. Only its main Pagoda structure plus two gigantic Ginkgo trees had survived the disastrous rape and now it still remain almost intact to this day. It also becomes a museum for ancient stone tablets and sculptures later. The following photos are just a few casual snapshots I just took yesterday.
